What does an Interior Designer do?
An interior designer is responsible for the interior aspects of a home/space within the outer walls. an interior designer will enhance the interior space, providing a functional, inviting and engaging environment in which we live or work in. An interior designer will lead the internal planning, or in conjunction with the architect, allowing for better flow and connection to occur. An interior designer will design all joinery items (including robes, kitchens, vanities and the like), wet areas spaces and bespoke items.
Who does an Interior Designer work with?
An interior designer will work directly with the client, or under a builder or architect (building designer), depending on how the project is structured.
Is there a difference between an Interior Designer and Interior Decorator?
Yes, a decorator will generally only work with soft furnishings and decorative elements and will have limited knowledge of detailed design, building construction/processes and interior codes which relate to interior design. An interior designer has undertaken further formal training and detailed study in order to put to practice the skills needed. An Interior Designer will analyses their client’s needs and plans interior layouts to make them physically, socially and aesthetically functional, whilst having the detailed knowledge to plan an interior environment.
